UVU DEPARTMENT OF THEATRICAL ARTS PRESENTS “ELEPHANT’S GRAVEYARD”

The UVU School of the Arts is hosting a production of “Elephant’s Graveyard” from Dec. 1-10 at the Noorda Regional Theatre Center for Children and Youth located on the UVU Campus.

Both experienced and novice UVU theater students will perform the nationally award-winning George Brant script, which was based on a true story. Through vivid monologue, each character expresses the hardships of circus life in the early 1900’s, all leading to a shocking and unforgettable event.

According to the production’s director, Dr. Terry Petrie, audience members can expect to be witnesses to a powerful retelling of an historical, emotional, and tragic event in small town 1920’s America.

UVU SYMPHONY PRESENT THE MUSIC OF BOHEMIA

Come to Utah Valley University’s Ragan Theatre on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and enjoy a wonderful night of music with “Music of Bohemia: Dvorak and Brahms.”

The UVU Symphony Orchestra will be playing Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” and Brahms’ “Hungarian Dances #5, 6.” Nicole Pinnell, UVU cello faculty, is guest soloist. The Chamber Orchestra will also be performing.

“HOLIDAY NIGHT LIVE” COMES TO THE UVU NOORDA THEATER

Expect to laugh out loud this holiday season as the UVU Theatre Department presents “Holiday Night Live 2011” at the Noorda Theatre Dec. 15-17 at 7:30 p.m.

The show brings together student-written sketch comedy and musical reviews unlike anything else that has been seen on campus. Students originally created a half-hour variety show, and it eventually developed into a class that focused on creating original musical theatre and comedy scripts.

UVU SYMPHONY PRESENTS AN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIR

Utah Valley University presents a symphony with an “international flair” Dec. 10 at 7:30 pm at the UVU Ragan Theatre.

“An International Affair,” is a unique mix of different country cultures and styles of music. Expect to see students from UVU’s School of the Arts perform Wagner’s Symphony in C major in a different manner that will surely surprise and entertain. It’s not the “long-haired, boring” symphony you’d expect.

THE ANNUAL “GUT-BUSTING” FARLEY FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVENT AT UVU

“Farley Family Christmas” is coming to the Utah Valley University’s Ragan Theatre on Dec. 15-17 and 19. All show times are at 7:30 p.m.

James Arrington stars in this “gut-busting” annual one-man show about what happens when members of the zany Farley Family – such as Cousin Heber and Aunt Pearl – get together for the holidays.

This event has become a holiday tradition that has had families laughing in the aisles for decades. After the wildly successful “Farley Family Reunion,” Arrington wanted to take the story of the Farley’s to the next step with this wonderfully hilarious look at a wacky family during Christmas. You’ll feel so much better about your own family once you sit back and enjoy this hilarious holiday tradition.

UVU TO CELEBRATE THE SEASON IN SONG AT THE STATE CAPITAL ROTUNDA

The Utah Valley University’s Chamber Choir, Masterworks Chorale, Women’s Choir, and Horn Choir are ringing in the holiday season with an amazing performance of gorgeous music Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the state capital in Salt Lake City.

Join us in this awe-inspiring, acoustical space. The Rotunda is the centerpiece of the Utah State Capitol building.

Admission is free and the event is open to the general public. However, please note there is no seating available in the Rotunda itself.

UVU AND OREM PUBLIC LIBRARY THRILLED TO HOST MARTIN’S MASS

Come to the Orem Public Library on Dec. 13 for an intimate evening with the Utah Valley University’s Chamber Choir, featuring Frank Martin’s glorious French a cappella Mass for Double Choir. This wonderful event starts at 7 p.m. and also features the world premiere of “Pieta” by Dr. Reed Criddle for viola and choir.

Admission is free. The Orem Library is located at 58 N State St., Orem.

“MESSIAH” BRINGS UVU AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO GLORIFY GOD

Utah Valley University will join the Provo community for the  annual Handel’s “Messiah” Sing-In, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community United Church of Christ in Provo. This special evening is an annual tradition that involves the audience as they are encouraged to add their voices to the sing-along.

Come join the UVU Masterworks Chorale, members of the UVU Symphony Orchestra, and UVU soloists for an entertaining evening of Handel’s “Messiah.”

The church is located at 175 North University Ave in Provo.

Audience members can bring your their own copy of the “Messiah” score to use, or can purchase one at the door.

Admission is free.

UVU RAGAN THEATER HOSTS THREE CHOIRS FOR A CHORALE CONCERT

A choir concert featuring the Utah Valley Universities Women’s Choir, UVU Masterworks Chorale, UVU Concert Choir, takes place Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ragan Theater. These three choirs will perform a wide variety of choral repertoire, from masterworks to contemporary music.

Covey to Feature UVU Faculty

Faculty from the UVU Department of Music have performed in venues across the globe. The Covey Center has opened its Studio theater to these international performers on Friday, November 11^th at 7:30 p.m.

Musical selections will highlight strings, woodwind, and brass faculty.    

“It’s an evening of high-quality performances,” said Donna Fairbanks, UVU Department of Music Department Chair. “We’re grateful to be able to bring these extremely talented faculty members together in the beautiful Covey Center.”
